Maths genius needed. Those darn points...
Now OK, I may not have graduated past the abacus as a method of adding up numbers, but riddle me this. Ambrose currently sits on 1989 points and Murph on 1983. Right? .
Drop the worst round and Marcos loses 96 points. That makes :delay while adding up fingers: 1893 Murph however loses 114 to make 1869. Ambrose increases lead. Now here's where I get more confused than I was during The Matrix. Murph's worst round (114) is actually BETTER than Marcos' (96) so he loses MORE points and falls FURTHER behind?????????? Put it another way. If Murph's worst round was indeed a DNF (instead of 114) he would lose NO POINTS and be in front... I know it's late and my abacus is rusty but how can this be??? For God's sake, let's can this ridiculous system and bring in one that you don't need to be a Harvard Maths Graduate to understand... |

Despite being a beanie, numbers dont actually float my boat.
But your assumption is slightly off... If Murf DNF's twice on the EC weekend, he ends up with a maximum of 1983 points. For Murf to do any good to add to his points tally, he needs to earn more than 114 points from the EC weekend. FOr Marcos to do any good to add to his points tally, he needs to earn more than 96 points from the EC weekend. If they both doubt DNF, Marcos wins by 6 points...

It has been saida million times b4 why don't the lovely people at AVESCO simply follow the F1 pointscore, OOPS sorry that is to easy for Aussie Bernie to come to terms with.

I would prefer the Moto GP point score table . 25,20,16,13,11,10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1 . It offers a good spread of point in the top 3 and has a good balance between rewarding the winners and rewarding those that are consistent . And it pays points down to 15th place .
But we have the point score system we do because the reality is that one team has dominated the season for the past 5 or 6 seasons and the current point score system keeps it artificially close . If the V8 series was as healthy as TC says it is , then we wouldn't have this constantly changing points system . |

I've been keeping a running tally using the MotoGP points system. My tallys are based only on finishing positions for each round, without dropping your worst

Ok, if the MotoGP system was used, Ambrose would be 21 points ahead of Murphy, meaning Murphy would need to win, and ambrose come about 12th or better.

I thought you had to complete a minimum number of laps? somthing like 2/3rds of race distance?

Even if they do get points, if ambrose gets 96 or less, no change, and murphy 114 or less no change.

Okay this is what I've figured out but considering I'm quite often out on my till because I can't use a calculator, someone may want to check it!
 For Skaife to win, he needs to finish on average 4 places ahead of Murph, and 8 ahead of Marcos. For Murph to win, he needs to finish ahead of Skaife (or no more than 3 behind) and 5 places ahead of Marcos (to ensure a clean victory that is) Anything less and Marcos wins... (I think!) So basically, Skaifey has to win and hope something goes wrong with the other two, Murph has to podium place and hope something goes wrong with Ambrose, and Ambrose has to make sure he's in the top 5.
