Irish rallycross 2004

2003 was a great year for irish rallycross, there has been a very postitive increase in the number of cars and drivers entering events.

The championship for 2004 will remain in mondello park, 2005 is estimated to be the Lease of life for the irish championship when it will be extended according to irish motorsport reports.

New cars are due to show this year, top of the list is christopher evan's Astra which is due to make its debut in october in the irish rallycross championship, evans will for the most part of the year remain in the micra. Secondly is eugene cahills Ford Rallycross Puma which is to make its debut this time next month, eugenes puma is the most eagerly anticipated arrival to the fleet in 2004.

Brendan Coyne will return to rallycross in what could only be a beutifully prepaired Ford Fiesta 1600. Sometime after the driver family are due to launch their new 106 GTi in the modified Class. Still on 106's My 106 maxi will be running the same initial colours that Justin Dales maxi ran (blue and white Peugeot sport colours) and will comply fully with Division 1A Regs.

edit: website promo snipped. Cool Site is that place for that. Redshoes

Rxie - are you running in the Irish championship or the British as well? What about Cahill in the Puma? I seem to remember seeing him in a 3 wheeled metro at Lydden in the past! Whichever championship(s) you're running in good luck

BertMk2 - we will be running the full irish championship and 4 selected rounds of the british (Nutts, Kirkistown and the double header at mondello in which time the maxi will either be ready or near completiong)

We will also report on the Irish and British rallycross championships this year, our coverage will be in conjuntion with rallycross.nl

Eugene hasent raced in rallycross for around 2 or 3 years now the last time he was out he concluded the event in a mini, however his brother (younger) joe cahill drives the superquick 1.4 Metro.

Thanks for the positive comments BertMk2, if only more people around this forum had a bit more gratitud to some of the people who race/report the respective championships

Absolutely. Couldn't agree more. If there's one thing I hate to see it's someone using a forum to run down websites run by volunteers........or organising clubs run by volunteers.....or safety services run by volunteers.

It's unpleasant and for anyone with an ounce of professionalism, it's unnecessary.

Not braving a trip across the water then rxie? I don't think I'll make any of the Irish rounds this year (I got to Mondello a couple of years ago - it rained. Lots)

As for positive comments - I say good luck to everyone who gets out there and has a go, not everyone can win but without the drivers it wouldn't be a lot of fun spectating would it? Also the work put in by the marshals, the organisers and the rest of the behind the scenes bods often goes unnoticed and unthanked but without any of them there would be no rallycross (or any motorsport). These people don't get paid for their services but give up their own free time to ensure I can stand out in the freezing cold losing the feeling in my limbs to get blurry photos of cars (or tarmac). So thanks to everyone involved in making sure it all goes ahead. End of waffle.

Rained? At Mondello? Oh surely not, I find that very hard to believe....

What about Nutts Corner and Kirkistown - can we tempt you to brave the elements for them? Kirky in particular should be interesting as there hasn't been a rallyX there in years!

well the normal circuit is great - been going up there for a few years now - but I don't know yet what the config for the Rallyx circuit will be....so it should be very interesting.....

Note to self: buy crash helmet....

Fortunately we were well prepared for rain - we must have looked pretty stupid in all our waterproof gear but at least we were dry.

I won't be there for Nutts or Kirkistown and I doubt I'll make it across for the Mondello double header (although I'd like to). The only rounds I'll definitely make at this stage are the Lydden rounds and Brands Hatch - the others all rely on me being able to get time off work
