Walshy should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Place Your Bets

Come on then lads. Time to hazard a pre-season guess.

We have all heard who has what and who is driving for who in the NWFFC. Who has done what to which car. Who is leaving and who is coming back. So, throw the anti in and we can place our bets over the coming weeks.

Who is going to win it. Now Hutchy is on is way (for now at least), who is going to pick up where he left off.

I am going to throw my anti in for Mike Bennett.

Returning this year. Always quick. Always smooth. Always had it together with the minimum of fuss. Just turned up, did the job and went. It will be interesting to see him up against the new crop, but his experience will count for a lot.

Discuss?

Oh, nearly forgot, there is also the pre '87. Well, who knows. There are a few quick lads out there and the return of one or two should make it very interesting.

It will be interesting to see Jamie Smyth as well. I believe he has stepped up to Post '86?

Really?

Mind you. He did have a relatively easy run of it. That is until you made him work for one of them. What happened to you in that race?

I've said it before but Ste Roberts will be the man to beat. He will and should win the first few rounds while the rest find their feet and that should give him a big points advantage to carry to the end.

Biased, I know, but I'm sure Ian will challenge for wins, but he will lack experience early season.

Who else. Don't really know, Alan Pike will be in a quick outfit so he will be up there, I've heard Neil Jones has hung his helmet up which is a real shame.

I like to think it will a battle of the young guns though which will be cracking to watch.

Finishing every race in the top 3 will win the title really. I think Hutch, Ste and myself finished in the top 3 every race but one each. Hutch and me due to car problems, Roberts first time out when the car was all new to him.

When you are up against guys that bring the car home every race you can't afford to throw it off. Again the top 3 this year never threw it off in a race and thats what wins titles.

Evening Mr G.

Your right there. Either way, it will be a cracking battle and brilliant to watch. I can't really comment on Ste Roberts as I don't know him that well. He always put in solid drives, but with the exception of the last couple of rounds, always appeared to be there to pick up the pieces. I just think with the calibre of drivers coming back, they are really hard drivers. And I mean hard. It will be a lot fiercer than it has been for a few years and I don't know if he can fight that sort of fight, but you know him better than me.
Pikey could do it, if he gets on top of the car which might take a while and if he drives it controlled. As good a driver as he is, he will tell you himself, his biggest enemy was over-driving.

Ste is no push over and will never ever give an inch. Just ask John Loebell.

I think he had no choice but to be there to pick up the pieces in some of the races because Fosters can be so hard to overtake on and as he does himself, Hutch and I know how to defend round there. There just in not enough of a straight anywhere to get a meaningful run on someone. Qualfying really is so much more important than the race. Same for Anglesey too. Thats why we should do more on the full circuit as it does create a better race.

Look at it this way. The last race I did I got away from pole to lead into the first corner. Only problem was like an idiot I missed a gear for the first time in a year and a half off the start and bent 3 valves and a couple of push rods (after the race the engine would not even start it was that bad). Anyway mt times were over a second slower than Hutch yet despite throwing everyting he could at me he could not get past.

That will make qualifying interesting then when we have to draw lots for the Assembley area slots.......

If I get slot 1, I could be bribed into swapping it for some tyres maybe......
LOL!

well he lost his best motor for a round or two near the end as it was being rebuilt bu Scholar and he lost 3/4 of a second. So yep, he has his best motor back now so as per last round he will be back to his normal pace. And of course, we will have a fresh Boldie.

So that's Roberts, Pikey, Bennett and Smythe all covered. Who else.

Stuart Dix has purchased the ex-Pikey Swift '92 and judging by his process in his Van Diemen last year, if the Swift is anything to go by, he could really mix it up as well. Although he's no spring chicken (1-0 Walshy), the ex-motorcycle racer can pedal and can give as good as he gets. That's if he keeps it off it's roof (2-0 Walshy).

Quick one J.

I never understood that. I may be wrong, but I thought the best you could get out of one of these things was around the 109.5 to 9.9 bhp. Is it not true that you can get a Dyno to read whatever you want it to read? I'm only asking, because I'm not well up and the set-up of the Dyno's.
