While checking Curt Calvin's (of the IndyStar.com) practice notes from day two I came across the following;

Quote:
The team that Greg Ray co-owns and drives for is still AWOL and won't run until business issues are resolved. The team doesn't have a sponsor. . . .
I reckon it's related to the "Greg Ray to sue everyone" deal...

Calvin's article also included the following (in regards to Robby Gordon's accident);

Quote:
The other downside of the accident was that with the extra expenses, it will be more difficult for the team to put a second driver in the field once Gordon qualifies.
I sure hope they will be able to field that second car despite the crash.

Team Owner should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Greg Ray found out that he's the only one paying for Honda engines and he wants some considerations from Honda or he won't run the car.

Difficult situatio for Honda in that case, because Access haven't been a competitive team so far, and can't relaly be thought of as a likely front-runner. The best solution might be for Access to run a second car for a good young driver, or perhaps Nakano, and then have Honda pay for at least one engine. For now, Greg's just shooting himself in the foot by not running in practice, assuming he can afford ot of course.

Thanks for the information Team Owner - that certainly explains the "business issues".

Gordon's car will take a couple of days to fix....twisted rear suspension and some front suspension damage and what looked like damage to the left side pod as ell as the wings on both ends...

I've seen a lot worse....it can be fixed...

relatively speaking the damage looked to be minor to moderate on TV...but I'm sure that there may be a lot of issues you can't see from a TV camera on top of grandstand when it comes to car damage...

But Robby is on a tight schedule for May....he needed to spend today in that primary car to finish his set-ups before he goes to play NASCAR and BUSCH SERIES later this week at Richmond....

Now he'll be running his back-up to get it set,....maybe he can transfer over what he learns from the back-up to the primary car after it is fixed....the primary car should be ready for this weekend...

He apparently had sponsors at the track yesterday and went out for Happy Hour to crank off some good speeds for show...he was quoted by Curt Cavin as saying "I should have known better..."

on tape, it looked like the back end began to step out as he exited turn one and he tried to catch it but couldn't....the car ultimately swapped ends as it slid across the short chute before making wall contact in Turn two....

Hope he has a good day today.....I belive he has to head to Richmond either tomorrow or Thursday....

Adrian Fernandez have really turned it up for today's session, clocking a lap of 220.735mph.

About to go back to green.

Marty Roth spins again. Looks like he's getting the hang of it, as he manages to keep it off the wall again, just brushing it with the nose of the car

His car looked loose on yesterday's spin....

Wonder if it was the same type of spin today???

NOTE: Roth doesn't have a back-up car....he'd better take good car of what he's driving right now....this is not a good situation for a 33-car field...

One Other Item:

Today's weather is extremely good for running with some speed....at noon it was in the mid-70s with a slight overcast sky, so the sun shouldn't be beating down on the track...

Adrian Fernandez continues to impress, setting a new fastest lap of 221.643mph.

(edit) And he just went even faster, setting a lap of 221.705mph!

BTW....

Initial weather forecasts have called for a high temperature on Saturday of 74 degrees with partly to mostly cloudy skies...

The weather guys have hinted at a "slight" possibility of a "few showers" as of today for "Pole Day"

Not a good sign...when Indy weather guys even mention "rain," in May, you can bet that the odds of getting wet are twice as high as they are any other time of the year....too much tourist $$$ at stake during this month...

But I hope they are wrong about the possibility of rain...because that would be perfect weather for fast speeds....

Looks like Helio's prediction for a pole speed at 225 may not be too far off....

It seems that the engineers who do the calculating for ways to make the cars slower are not nearly as smart as the ones trying to make it go faster.

Of course, there is no million dollar payday for having the slowest car out there. Guess that answers my question!

Roth is in way over his head IMO. I think if it wasn't for car count Barnhardt would park him. The car has so much downforce in it even I could drive it.

Worth noting is that Felipe Giaffone crashed late afternoon yesterday. Thankfully he walked away uninjured from the crash and is cleared to drive.
