Sequential Gearboxes?
When are the V8's going to catch up with the rest of the world and introduce sequential gearboxes, it must be the only circuit based series that doesn't have them. I don't want hear it's because of the cost as a lunched engine due to missed gear would cost more.
That my 40 Euro's worth any thoughts? |

i think some people were using them in a roundabout kind of way earlier in the season, they were looked at and now no longer use them.
Am i right or wrong people ? |

Sequential box's are for wimps.
I know some people don't see it, but it is removing another skill from racing in my opinion. |

Dazz, i agree. Just cause the rest of the world does it, doesnt mean that it has to be done here. Will it improve the show? no, not really imho.
changing gearsis part of driving a race car. rev management is part of driving a race car. looking after your equipment is part of driving a race car. If you start taking things like H- pattern gear changing away, then doesnt the skill level required to pilot a v8 at the top level diminish, even if ever so slightly? |

Dazz, I agree as well. Just look at F1, removing driver aides rather than adding them.

I have a six speed in my car and although I find it quick I still have problems sometimes wondering just where I am. With a gate I could sort of feel what gear I was in - if you can understand that.

Daz, come on most road going cars have them, it's like saying get ride of power steering cause that's a drivers aid. It's called progress.

I understand why they would want it , but I'd prefer them to stay the way they are because it adds another element to the race , missed shifts , picking the wrong gear , staying too long in selected gear , it all adds to the excitiment of it all.
But if thats the way they want to go then fair enough. as for progress hmmmmmmmm , arent we still using pushrod engines ? |

Your right Dazz "wimps" is the word. Murphy did a 2 6 at Bathurst and he said he missed a gear The lap would not have been as good with a sequential box. it take out the fun..

How quick would it have been had he not snagged first out of The Dipper? This is where the real skill lies- how awesome would that have been, over and above what it was anyway?

I think the rule makers should decide if this is a 'modern' or 'historic' series and then the answer will become clear. |

some people like the sound a seq box / engine makes as the driver has to go back down through all the gears.

Most damaging over revs happen when the driver uses the engine to assist in braking and goes a little to far. This will still happen with sequential. The only thing it will help with is miss shifts which usually don't do to much damage if any.
