IRL to run "The Boot"?

Quote:
Whether they would run the 2.45-mile NASCAR course or the 3.4-mile Grand Prix layout isn't known. "From their visit here, we were encouraged that they might want to run the boot (full 3.4-mile layout)," Giese said. "That is where our road-racing history comes from."
Watkins Glen still in the mix as IRL finalizes schedule

If it turns out to be more than wishful thinking, it would be absolutely superb!

Run the Boot, Tony!!!!

Run The Boot!!!!

Personally, I think this one is on the schedule...it is just a matter of the formal announcement being made....

The local and regional business community as well as the race track have been open and public about their strong interest and there was even a campaign set up by the Regional Chamber of Commerce types to get everyone behind this effort to bring the IRL to Watkins Glen...

They are mobilizing business people from larger cities that are within driving distance from the Glen as well....

I also think that there will be at least 3 road courses next year....

I think Sears Point will happen and Portland (since the door is opened there) is also very possible....

Having said that...boy would I love to have the IRL at Mid-Ohio...

I saw Windtunnel the other night, and Dave said that it looks very good, or that it's a done deal, that the IRL will race at the Glen with the Busch Series. I didn't hear the whole thing, so I didn't want to start a rumor, but since the subject was brought up...

That probably means it will be the NASCAR track set-up, right?

Not so sure - since the long circuit is, after all, rather actively used, I don't see what would stop them from simply 'opening' it up when it's time for the IndyCars to run after having had it in 'stock-car configuration' for the Busch cars.

The only thing that would prevent them doing that is the people who had seats in that section of the track can't watch the Busch race then.

I'm quite sure the Busch race would be held on Saturday, with the IndyCar race held on Sunday.

Will the Indycars run 'flatout' up the up-hill esses like the NASCAR's, or will they re-introduce the chicane at the base of the esses like which they had for Formula 1.

I'd say it is a foregone conclusion that the 'bus stop' will be part of whichever layout they use.
