Toyota And Jordan Partnership
I don't like rumours, but this one is true, that would be interesting. I heard that Toyota would supply engines to Jordan, and that in exchange Ryan Briscoe would get one of the seats.
Has anyone heard anything about it? It's maybe just speculation, but I guess that both teams would benefit from that. T Last edited by Turbo_Era; 29 Jul 2004 at 23:56. |

Makes me sick to see guys like Will Davison having to give up Brit F3 mid season due to lack of money. People say this and that about Australia, how it is to find sponsors. Then you see their V8s... with lots of sponsorship and YOUNG TALENT. Waste isn't it? Hope Briscoe and Webber change the profile of single seaters over there. |

Jordan suck at the moment with the Jaguar/Ford engine (nearly as much as Minardi)
They need a new engine, but I don't see how they can afford it ? Why would Toyota "give" them engines in exchange for putting a test driver on the track ? Don't get me wrong, I want Ryan to get a start, but I would like it to be up the field a bit. He would need to perform miracles (as Webber did) to go up from the bottom. David. |

would be a good learning year for Ryan if it happened , but I think in reality Ryan will become their (Toyota) number 3 next year to play with the big boys on Fridays , another good way to learn.

I think it would be extremely unwise for Toyota to stretch themselves like this at such a young age...what experience do they really have of being a top team?
They need a few more years to really gel as Toyota before they start dishing out their motors down (or up!) the grid... |

Lets not forget that from next year the engines will have to last for two races and therefore in theory they have the capacity to supply another team with engines. It's also worth remembering that if Toyota do better next year (Mike Gasgoine should see to that) then the following year they wont be able to run a third driver on Fridays. Both may be in the minds of those in power at Toyota.

Turbo_Era,
If you don't like rumours, why you start a thread with rumours. And, what on earth is you open a rumours thread with statement that you don't like rumours? Last edited by Led ZeppF1; 30 Jul 2004 at 09:31. |

I don't like rumours when people take them as fact.
Although Autosport says so, I can't say that a Toyota/Jordan deal is true or not. The aim of the thread was to hear what people think of it... Good for Toyota? Good for Jordan? Good for Ryan? Last edited by Turbo_Era; 30 Jul 2004 at 09:54. |

I think the toyota/jordan link is provided by the possible new jordan investors from dubai. There is a automotive link to toyota with one of their (investors) other businesses i think..... so I'd tend to believe it more than other rumours.
There must be a reason ferrari do the same thing with sauber, and i assume there are some benefits to be had when it comes to R&D. |

the mark smith news must be the best news for a team who was able to win and not surprise anybody with it.
Smith will handily aid the Jordan team, and with a possible toota mill, these guys may come from the back of the field to... what the middle? or a podium- cripes the top 4 teams reall have a huge gap to the back\sorry it is now encrouching on top 5 Ferrari Honda Maclaren Renault and Williams F1 is getting great again. and now possibley jordan near the front and Jaguar and Ford to concentrate on one team this could be good all around |

Not for Jaguar who would lose the income from the sale of Cothworths to Jordan!

Sounds like a good deal for all parties. Toytoa won't need ot produce engines quite as quickly as before under the new rules for 2005, we allknow how good their engine is, and Ryan hasn't done as much racing as he deserves in recent years - he could learn a lot from Nick, certainly.
Great to see Jordan's design team bolstererd as well. Combining these two factors they could be able to challenge for 6th next year. |

It's all shaping up to be a competitive 2005.
I hear Briscoe may actually be Toyota's third driver, with Zonta moving to Jordan, but whatever way, it's good news. |

It would certainly help Jordan's chances of some success next year. It seems like a sensible deal, becoming a quasi satellite team of Toyota could be the break that Eddie needs

And this comes with the news that Wilux are fronting the money for Christian Albers (sp?) to test a Jordan...Albers being a Mercedes man, of course.

Oh goodie, yet more new names to F1. It looks like D Coulthard might have difficulty in obtaining a drive for next year at this rate!

Albers has also been mentioned as a possible for a seat at Sauber (again an interesting Mecedes element to that link). Good to see that there could be light at the end of the tunnel for Jordan.

Albers drives for Mercedes currently, that does not mean he'll necessarily retain Mercedes links if he gets into F1.

I'd hate to see Wilux have any influence in F1, after the way they treated Minardi. I'm certainly not convinced of Albers' single-seater skill either, consdering his record in F3000 against Webber. It's important for Jordan to have at least 1 experienced driver next year, someone who can help with setup and development and push them forward.

Albers has been an F3 champion, though.
His F3000 season was abysmal, but he's better than that showed. Hopefully Jordan can hang on to Heidfeld, with Zonta or Briscoe in the other car and Albers as Friday tester. |
