NASCAR at Circuit Villenieve?!

the rumor is that NASCAR in their ever greed driven expansion will now sacrifice Watkins Glen race!
oh the horror!
but they thought it a god idea to go and race at Circuit Gilles Villneuve! (why not both?)
and Busch series will race in Mexico city Hermanos Rodrigues and Watkins glen (2 road races to offset cost of building a right turning car as well)
so let's race in circles and add road courses willy nilly....
so why not simply kill all the double date races and add road courses?
the trucks killed off Topeka kansas road race becuase one road course wasn't enough- then they dropped portland because of I don't know...
what gives in NASCAR land? they also have set up shop in toronto NASCAR-Canada (set to absorb CASCAR a minor series in canada- and add regional series North of the "south")
any one ever heard the song from Dixie?
with the line "we'll fight again this time we'll win" blah blah hoorah for dixie or some garbage like that- ugh is it happening- are we all going to get south-e-fied?

"Are we all going to get south-e-fied?"
If by "we" you mean "Canadians"...
Too late for that now. NASCAR is immensely popular here, easily the "biggest" sport outside of only hockey and the NFL.

I'd never be able to link to it now, but I distinctly remember having read an article in which Bill France said straight-out, "We don't need Canada." That was maybe around two years ago now. Thus, this rumour about Circuit Gilles Villeneuve and the absorption of CASCAR surprises me.

What Canada lacks are the big ovals for the Nextel Cup cars. If they were to build one in Toronto, attendance would be HUGE.

The stock cars (CASCAR) already run toronto and vancouver and put on one of the better shows... in that there is passing on a regular basis.

I am curious to see what happens over the next few months.. NASCAR buys CASCAR, what they will do.. what changes will be made.. but it is important for all the teams with sponsors to maintain a space on the Molson events roster... like macdaddy says.. we don;t have 50K plus stand facilities to pack in.... and without some sort of BUZZ... we couldn't fill them anyway.

Luke-

Yes... CASCAR runs both street circuits (Molson Indy) each year with Champ Car - a few years ago they also ran @ Trois Rivieres. They have consistenly had 30+ cars... a few years ago they had over 40.

I am unsure if you get the coverage in England... but all of the races are televised on SPEED TV. In the USA, they run Friday nights in the winter months.. then are 10-14 days tape delayed across Canada on SportsNet.

luke-

I was under the impression that SPEED channel was available in England. Is this not the case?

Well in a way we do .
In England on Sky Digital (Satelite) we have a motorsport channel called MotorsTV. It feutures SPEED channel coverge. For example when the NASCAR Busch series is on live we get it but with speed channel graphics and their commentators if you get what I mean.
