Just a thought.

I race in a Classic Touring Cars Championship but there are loads of "Historic" classes as well.

In rallying there are historic and classic championships.

Could there be a market for "Historic" classes of Rallycross car? I recall 4wd Capris, Modified Escorts, the ubiquitous Mini etc. All of which must be somewhere (can't all have been destroyed at Lydden can they?).

So would it be possible and if so what cars would appear in what classes?

peespeed should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Didn't some of the clubs in the UK try an 'Historic Class' a few years ago but only got 2 or 3 entries

It was tried a couple of years ago, I thought it was a brilliant idea but it didn't take off. Old rallycross cars must fall into 3 catagories, dismantled, rotted away or to beloved to take out & get dirty again.

Four cars I'd love to see again are Dennis Atkinson's Porche, Tony Procters Capri, Wayne O'Conner's Rover SD1 & Dimi Mavropolis's Audi

I second that proposal and would include Will Gollops BiTurbo 6R4, I want another quick blast from the Paddock in Mondello to the outside of the first corner(of the race track) just like the one I remember from yonks ago at the ERC event

Would Bob Goodings escort count as historic? That hit the circuits again last year (albeit in a more modern guise).

I guess Dorans RS200 would qualify too - it's about 20 years old now and is certainly a classic

It was tried a few years ago in a blaze of histric furnour but only three cars turned up and all were soundy beaten by a well driven Triumph TR8 if i remember rightly which was never a particularly succesful rallycross car!
Guess it was just the wrong time for the class as numbers in rallycross were very low anyway and the entry fees are not really much different to a chaep stage rally, the cars were convereted rally cars i think. Shame

One way to organise some classic rallycross would be to approach the Historic Rally Car Register people who run the national post-historic / classic rally championship. Maybe try to get some of their members to do a demonstration event? Or perhaps the Roger Albert Clark rally organisers would be interested in something like this?
