Last Post and Polls

In threads that have a poll, the time in the "Last Post" column seems to refer to either the last time someone posted or the last time someone voted on that poll (whichever was later).

However, in that same column, the member name always refers to the last post.


Seems like a (minor) bug to me, as it results in inconsistant data in that column (as the name and the time are often unrelated).


(Note that this bug does create unnecessary bandwidth, as we are tempted to open the thread to see the new post by that member, even if in fact no new post has been made...)

I was thinking the same.

You'll see a thread saying "Last post by Member X at 15:02"

Open it and Member X posted at 10:32, but someone must have voted in the poll.

It is mildly confusing.

This is one of the optional behaviours in vBulletin and was switched on recently. The behaviour is designed so that when a poll is voted on the poll will then take its position as the last modified thread (which technically it is) even though there's no actual posting from the person who modified the thread.

Comments on this behaviour are welcome and the setting may be changed if necessary.

seen this on other VB forums as well, but the guy who runs SEATCupra.net has somehow overridden it if thats of any help

It's actually a simple setting on the control panel, I just happened to turn it on to see if there was any feedback. As the feedback appears to be negative I'll turn it off again

Thank god it's gone now, because it was rather frustrating.
