Word around the pits at Eastern Creek was that the GT Championship have been in deep talks about running the 24hour again.
The only stumbling block is another party that wants to run a demo weekend for car manufacturers to show their wares off. Kind of like an outdoor motorshow with noise. |

Hmm how about a combined "Brutes" GT-P/production and GT race or something.
Why cant there be 2 or 3 simultaneous races for different cars held on the track. And please let it be at Bathurst |

Having watched vision of the ute races, I can’t imagine too many people eager to have $500k+ cars on the track with them!
Lets hope “something” happens though |

Yeah, the performance deficit can be pretty frightening at 3am down Conrod.

Don't see how that could be avoided, as they will need the grid numbers.
Chances are however since Brutes are now an AVESCO category, pressure would be exerted on them not to take part in a race which may rival the Bathurst 1000. |

A 24hrs race would be fantastic!! But would it be a rival to the regular 1000? I dont think so because you are talking about 2 different forms of Motor racing. Sadly although I think the concept was a good one for purist I dont think it appealed to the wider general public and was floored in its competition regs allowing silly so called production cars like the Monaro to compete with and beat Ferrari's etc.

bazil: its a rival in that its at Bathurst. We have two recent examples, when merely that fact has been enough.

I heard something about an attempt to get a 2006 24hr event, but the Bathurst Council wouldnt allow more than a specific amount of events to be held

I really hope the BCC and the group behind this latest move are successful in the bid to re begin the event, as I feel Australian motorsport really needs this event. The opportunity for a huge variety of Australian categories to be centre stage at this event is something very special. |

No, he's pretty much right. The Bathurst Council considers the other event, while not an actual motorsport event, to be a full track closure.

There are several events held at Mt Panorama each year. I was up there a few months ago for a Supersprint. That wasn't a full track closure. They do hillclimbs as well, although not a full track closure. The 1000 is a full track closure, and at the moment they are allowed one other full closure.
If a Goodwood-style festival goes ahead then it will be full track closure. |

The East Coast Targa will be using the circuit for three days soon, including one stage on the last day where cars will start at Hell Corner and travel the length of the circuit, finishing at Murray's.
Bathurst Council recently applied for an adjustment to the Mt Panorama Act to have an increase of events (full closures) from two to five a year. |

Hang on, I read in the paper last weekend that Bathurst Council nocked back the proposal for 2006. The v8 central article is dated yesterday and suggests that talks with BRC are still happening. Can someone fill me in?

Also read AA p 3 and MN p10-10 for the story. The Western Advocate article was written from speculation and Council whispers. the media release on this site and V8Central, plus used by AA and MN, various other newspapers, TV, radio is the official version from MPAC Ltd the promoter in negotiation with the BRC.

Good stuff. I was a bit shattered when I read newspaper article. For the record I think it might have been in the Herald Sun CarsGuide last Friday that I read it. Thanks djt46 I have also read the AA article sence then.

Couldn't find anything in the Herald Sun Cars Guide? It was Front Page of the Western Advocate last Saturday.
