Chapperal 2D Race Car '67... any info?

I've just seen a pretty nice looking old race car, the Chapperal 2D and wondered if anyone knew anything about them?

Also wondered if any companies made a replice of them as I think it would be could to have a similar road going version.

Anyone help please?

The 2D was one model of a series of pretty special cars from the highly innovative partnership of Jim Hall and Hap Sharp, both from Texas. They built their Chaparrals from 1962 through to about 1970 (I think) in very small numbers.

The 2D was a Group 6 sports prototype built in 1966, powered by a 5.3 Corvette Gran Sport engine coupled to an automatic transmission. It won the Nutburgring 1000kms that year driven by Phil Hill and Jo Bonnier. Although I am not certain, I believe that only two 2Ds were built. As reference to the website given by cybersdorf indicates, this would not be an easy car to replicate since it had lots of special bits, even the wheels were to one off design by Chapparral themselves. I guess this car is probably unsuitable for a road going replica although not impossible with plenty of both money and determination!!

Thanks for the info guys, a good site as well.

Was just an idea, cos it would be something different as maybe a spaceframe/kit-car type of replica for the road and was also an idea for a bit of hillclimbing given the right sort of engine used.
