BTCC at Silverstone.. where to watch from?

Hi all,

I did the impossible, persuaded the girlfriend to let me to go Silverstone for the BTCC this weekend, a miracle because we went to Donnington last weekend, 2 race weekends in 2 weeks.. she must be buttering me up for something..

Anyway, I've never been to Silverstone other than at F1 tests before, so my question to those in the know, is where's the best place to watch from? where does the overtaking happen?

Took me all day to find a good spot at Donnington, I'm hoping you can save me some shoe leather!

thanks,

-Steve

Normally I'd say go to Abbey but as it's on the National layout this year that won't help. Luffield or Copse are pretty much the only options. Of the two I'd go for Luffield.

At Silverstone I did find it quite interesting in the Woodcote grandstand - you get a good view of the end complex to see some spins and overtaking, on some weekends (I don't know which ones, tho) they put diamond screens up (you can see any action but forget trying to squint enough to see any text/graphics!), and you get a good feel for the speed as the rocket past Woodcote and towards Copse - good place to watch the start from, particularly if it's raining (*cough*LMES!*cough*).

However, with more than one touring car race, could be beneficial to move around differing spots for each race.

How many grandstands do they open for the BTCC events there? Or should I rephrase - how many grandstands does anybody sneak into? hehe

The grandstands shouldn't be sneaked into...they are closed for a reason. Climbing over the gates to get into them isn't a good idea and shows no repect for the circuit or anything else for that matter.

There were 3 of the grandstands open this weekend and with all the terracing available I think that was plenty.

I'll second that, there should be plenty of action on the way into the hairpin and you get an unobstructed view of the cars blasting off down the straight. There's none of that annoying debris fencing there either so you can get some decent piccies too
