Gulf Blue & Orange

Hello all....

I'm looking to create a collection of photos on my personnal website (as I redevelop it) of Gulf Blue & Orange cars (or any vehicle), not the famous ones like the Porsche 917's and Ford GT40's. Moreso other specials and enthusiat's cars.

I know there was a Audi R8 painted Gulf - B&O, Selectric sells 1 1:43 model of a Super Seven in B&O... I'd like to find others.......

Of special interest would be any Porsche's other than the 917 or Targa 908 in Gulf Blue. Also, any open wheel in the colours...

Any or all pics of interest !

There are 2 cars that have been taking part in the NW FF1600 this year, one owned by Redracer77, the other by Heel-and-toe-no

I have pics of both, but will have to wait until after the Festival to sort out

There's a VW Scirocco in Classic Saloons run by someone on the forum (whose name I can't remember at the minute) and also Kevin Williams' recently rebuilt Classic Thunder Sierra Cosworth, although I don't have a picture of either car.

In terms of the famous ones.. You'll be wanting pictures of the following..

The John Wyer Automotive Gulf GT40's which ran as Mirages..

The later closed and open topped Mirages (in one of which young Derek Bell won his first Le Mans in '75)..

There was also a later open 962 Porsche and, of course, the McLaren F1's in "true" gulf corpoarate colours of dark blue and orange..

The Belmondo Courages and Vipers also ran in Gulf colours this year, albeit not quite as defined as the 917's, GT40's and various Mirages..

Michael Cotton's recent book on the subject (The blue and the orange) would be worth getting hold of..

Open 962?? I have not seen that configuration of a 962 at all... Altho I understand a closed 962 may have worn the colours in Asia or South Africa...

Yes, I was aware of the McLaren in corp colours. I worked for Gulf for 13 years in the 80's and 90's.... the light blue was actually the colour of one of the companies we bought in the 60's. Was a California oil company, altho the name escapes me now......

Great input. Thanks for making e aware of them !!

I've been fortunate to have designed a few Gulf liveries now so, I have a few bits of artwork somewhere if thats of help

95 McLaren F1 GTR (Met Blue, Silver Btm with Orange pinstripe)
95/96 McLaren F1 GTR (test car - Flat Blue, Orange horizontal stripe along btm)
96 McLaren F1 GTR (Flat Blue, Orange Btm)

Also did some work on the Green/Silver Audi UK livery based on the previous years Gulf livery for Arena, so I might be able to help out on that too drop me a line.

from memory there was also a Gulf livery on one of this years Staples2Naples cars

Gulf Kremer-Porsche Spyder K8, Le Mans 1994 driven by Bell/Donovan/Laessig...

Kremer built a few 962 spyders and raced them, mostly, in the interserie (Manuel Reuter being the main driver).. They also ran them at le mans for a few years.. I think the last of them ran as late as Le Mans qualifying in '98..? Rocky Augusta..?
