I was thinking, is the Ford Puma long enough to enter in the BTCT? the 147 looks really short and was wondering how long they must be.

I ask this as i heard that Ford wanted to run the Focus in the BTCT but it was too short.

Its stupid really in the WRC the cars can be any length.

I dont think Ford'll enter the BTCC. Volvo is as you all know owned by Ford they have decided that Volvo would take over Touring Car racing. I dont think Ford wants to race agains Volvo...

Remember that was why Volvo quitted back in 1999...

It was a real pitty to see Volvo forced out by Ford, but in years to come General Motors, Ford, Toyota will be the main manufacturers and I can see the BTCC's future lying in the hands of indies.

Ford will definetly enter the BTCT in 2002, becasue volvo are doin' the ETCC so the Fords will do the BTC

i was also thinking about what car they could run, and the only 1 i could think of is:

Ford Cougar, right length, 2 door!
with a body-kit these would look alright!

So BTC in 2002

Vauxhall astra
Peugeot 406
Lexus IS200
Alfa Romeo
MG Z?
Ford Cougar
Nissan Primera
VW Passat
Merc c-class coupe??!!??

Not too sure about the Cougar, i think its possibly too long, and im not sure if Ford wants to promote that car anyway.

Oh and if VW enter, it'll be with the Bora, no question as they have blitzed the world with an ad campaign and its the car they are promoting. I have never seen an ad for the passat - it mings anyway.

I dont think most certainly that Ford will not enter the BTCC 2002. Volvo has taken over Touring Car racing within the Ford-sector. Ford is doing Rally, Jaguar F1 etc.

That Volvo will enter ETCC 2002 isnt 100% sure yet, Volvo is AIMING for it. But they could aswell enter BTCC instead or both of the championship...

I thought the lenght limit for the BTCC is 4.2 metres? It was for ST's anyway. Dunno about new regs, though. The 147 is surely shorter than that, though? And there are Focus' and Clios' in the BTCP , as well. Any help, Craig?

It was 4.2m for ST but was reduced to 4.1m for BTCT. Incidently the Astra only just scrapes in at 4.11m. There is talk that some of the manufacturers want to revert to 4.2m if the BTCT rules are adopted by the FIA Euro series.

Don't think SP/BTCP has a minimum length but there is a requirement to have at least 4 seats.

can't they get around this though by adding extra long bumpers, like Audi did in the DTM?

I see this too TL and I just wonder if all these manufacturers that have commited this year do a 'Win and Walk' as say Alfa did.

I think indie teams are the way forward

Surely the Alfa 147 is much smaller in length than 4.1 metres!?
