2006 V8Supercar Development Series

The calendar is announced...

The specs are sorted...

So who is coming to play in the Development series in 2006?

Well one team who is weighing up its participation is apparently Britek.. Whispers from Dandenong way suggest that previous Fujitsu-backed development series driver Jose Fernandez is making the big jump to the main game... and this squad may not run a car in the series next year...

Another group looking to make a return to the series after a year off is JFR... with two cars updated to the latest VZ specifications, including L2 engines and technical support... Mr Price and Mr O'Brien shall enjoy their new surrounds no doubt

This is the last season of AUs and VXs in this class.. so we may see a few of the to-be-superseded cars pop out of the woodwork for one last bash at the title... I coulda been a contender... or something

Well if it is a Volvo, then it is essentially, but indirectly, a Ford, so it might just pass.

Stationwagons were designed for other things though, surely, and racing wasn't one of them. Starts with an "R" though..... colloquially of course

Come on JDI, be careful, one of your fellow countrymen " Juntulman Jum Ruchards" raced a Volvo Station Wagon in 2 lt Touring Car, over here many long white clouds ago.

Went pretty well too, but then Jum goes alright in almost everything he drives........

P.S. Uf thus wagon's rockun, don't go knockung.........

The heat seems to have gone off the Lee Holdsworth to GRM rumour, so him in #72 in this series is probable.... (well, as probable as anything that happens in the silly season!)

If Canto and Ritter (And maybe Wills, Ellery, Seton etc) don't end up with top series drives, how many of these would end up in the Development Series? Next year could be a cracker if a couple of them turn up!

Is there a limited number of licences in this series, like in the top level, or can anyone join?

There is not a cap on the licence holders, but there is still on the track, But anyone who was in the main game this year, if they finished between 1st and 25th, they are not eligible, but then they bent the rules to allow Luffy in this year, so who knows.
Who is Andrew Thompson?

Why Fernandez to run in V8s, surely Britek don't think it's so fun to run have one car running last every weekend. Even Brede arguably faster than Fernandez was a constant back rower in '04, so you need to have genuinely quick drivers if you want be remotely competitive!

I think Brede could be another one like Whicup if given a second chance..... Whincup was ordinary in his first year, (In an ordinary car) had a year off, came back and has exceeded all expectations. Based on his enduro drives this year, I can't see any reason why Brede couldn't concievably do the same.... apart from the fact that no-one seems to want to try him....

Mr Fernandez is the link to the Fujitsu fortune... why shouldnt he get a race drive if he is the one who did the hard work to pull the deal together?

If Britek runs at the back it is only because they cannot test thanks to their alleged linkage with FPR... that #25 car was a rocket at Bathurst.... if only that pace could be found at other tracks

From what I can gather above, John Faulkner Racing are looking at making a comeback and will run out of the Nemo Motorsport facility with 2 VZs. Nemo have 2 spare VZs, the Astro and Daisy chassis which were last raced by Baird and Morris in 04. Presumably these will be used instead of the 2 JFR built cars that were used for the Holden Young Lions campaign in 04.

Am I correct in thinking that Shane Price, is the son of Faulkner's co-driver Drew from the Toyota Team Australia days in the late 80's?

Yep, the same Drew Price who runs Arrow Karts.

Shane is a great racer, and will go places... far and fast.

Options in the UK and USA are on the table though as well at the moment, so wait and see.

I have an idea Astro was recently converted to the PMM ride car.....the bits and pieces that once were Colin, trashed in NZ last year, presumably are still lying around the PMM shed though.

I have heard that GRM are very keen to 'hold onto' Lee Holdsworth as an enduro driver for '06, and a main game drive in '07. As far as I know, GRM may give some minor financial assistance to Lee and Smith's Trucks Racing in '06 to allow Lee to compete in all rounds of the Championship, as well as having a crack at the title.

I see that Evangelou is selling his BA.

http://www.racetime.com.au/?racenews=19003

I suspect he'll either disappear or go into an Old Tratty Commodore.
