Who will be the 2005 Nextel Champion?

I presume Tony Stewart's points lead will prove too much for the other's to overcome. He has had 25 top 10 finishes so far this year.

Whatever Stewart says he is still going to treat it like any other weekend. He is also going to go for the win (www.autosport.com).

danieljboys should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
It's definitely been a consistent year for Stewart and it's going to be a well deserved title. It would be hard to see anyone else stealing the title from him.

He'd pretty much need to wreck or have a really bad run, right?

By my calculations, Johnson needs to win and Stewart to finish about 15th or worse.
If Stewart does wreck, Johnson needs to make up ~ 100 (52 point gap + ~ 40 points for finishing high thirties) or so points so he'll need to finish in the top 20.

He can do it, just it'd take some hard luck.

Carl Edwards would need to win, Johnson to finish ~ 7th and Stewart 20th or so.
He could do it, but Stewart has been very consistant.

Say what you will about Tony Stewart, he's driven quite cleverly for the last few races, and pretty much always ended up where he wanted to be. If there aren't any last minute Pro Wrestling twists of the plot I don't see him losing this one.

(and that was the kiss of death there )

Mark Martin can't win it as the difference between points for 1st and 43rd are I think 157 including bonus points

I thought there points difference from 1st to last is about 185 including bonus points or has that changed?

Anyway I would like Tony win as he is my favorite driver.

The winner can get a max of 190 points including the bonus points and 43rd placed driver gets 34 without bonus points so entering the last race you need to be within 156 points to stand a chance of winning

One thing is for sure, as It's Rusty's last ever race, no better way to go out winning.
