MSA 2006 Licence

Mrs. Flagwaver & I have just got our 2006 Licences through, I reckon the number is in the wrong place.
I think it should be directly under the pictures, that way the criminal look would be complete.

No, but the way she waves a flag could be classed as criminal.

Have you just joined us? Otherwise, most of us got TWO year licences in 2005, so not due for a re-issue until Dec 2006/Jan 2007!!

As rescue bods we get our licence every year. This year the little credit card licence has a rather small, rather unflattering (in our case) photo.

I'm still waiting for mine...

Sent off my upgrade from trainee in August. I have had a reply from BMMC

The word "Licence" often relates to the MSA Marshals registration card which is the photo-id card sent bi-annually to all registered marshals who have moved upwards from trainee level.

The MSA do not class marshals as "Licenced Officials" but those who perform rescue, clerking, scrutineering, timekeeping etc ARE! (Although thses duties can be considered as falling into the category of marshalling) Licenced Officials also receive a "Credit-card" sized badge of ID, the Blue Book and quarterly edition of the MSA magazine (Ordinary marshals can buy it!!)

If you are a marshal, you will normally be sent your registration card (Licence) once you upgrade from trainee (or maybe at the start of the following year, following your upgrade)
If you are not a member of a marshalling club then perhaps you would need to contact the MSA to get your name on the register, but it's much simpler if you join a club!

Thanx Mark,

I am an examining speed observer with the BMMC but have never been sent a MSA card. Is this because I do not do circuit marshalling?

Yes. The MSA scheme does not (yet) cover Speed grades.

Ahem! Correction. Not all Licensed Officials receive the Blue Book. Only MSA Stewards, Clerks and possibly Scruts and Timekeepers.

Before i turned to the dark side and went on Rescue if i wanted a Blue Book i'd go see the nice people on the MSA stand at Autosport Int. and they would sell me one at a greatly reduced rate.

And doctors.

'bout time the MSA bucked up its ideas.
To 21st century.
'Marshals not licenced officials'?? Bah, humbug!

(I've been wanting to say that for years - not necessarily at Christmas)

I have no problem with that. The crucial difference between marshals & licenced officials is that licenced officials need a licence to be able to perform their designated duties, marshals don't.

Let's just be thankful that marshals aren't 'licenced officials' & that a licence appropriate to the duties being undertaken isn't a requirement; circuits would be very quiet places at weekends!

Well put Dave. There could be some very quiet circuits without the Marshals licenced or otherwise.

To add to what Dave said; I think that you will find that the term licensed is used to cover a number of appointments where the people filling that post have to have an MSA license before they can do that job. E.g. clerks, scrutineers, rescue crew etc.

So when that job is required to be done it must be done by someone licensed by the MSA.

(Plus there are some other appointments which attract "licences" such as MSA Instructors.)

Regards

Jim

Here's a thought...

One reason they don't send out a copy of the BB to every marshal in the country is because it would be incredibly expensive. As most of them would not be used, it would be quite wasteful.

However, a CD (or maybe DVD - it's quite a big book) with the book in PDF format would be a fraction of the cost. Think about it, even the postage would be cheaper.
