TrackMania: Sunrise. Breathes life into the satle racing game genre. Excellent competitive online play, genuis puzzle and platform modes and, of course, the excellent track editor. Months and months of gameplay in this one.

Only one?

GT4 then! But Burnout Revenge provides more entertainment. Much more!

No contest though not sure if it was 05. Forza Motorsport. So much better than GT4 I am afraid. At least a Subaru sounds like a Subaru in Forza, unlike in GT when it suddenyl turns into a V6!
So disappointed by GT, ridiculous braineach programmers making you do 3 real 24 hour races just to finish the prgram and championships that take a week to compltee.
Just makes me think they had run out of ideas, c'mon some of the car models like the Focus WRC are 6 years old!

GT4 without doubt for the Nordschleife and car handling.

Pity there is still no:

Crash damage
Realistic car sounds
More than 6 cars competing

Nintendo has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!

I love that game. Download the "extreme" free expansion pack from either |Nadeo| or download.com. But, i did prefer the original. It was more plyable and easier to use. I made a replica of the top gear test track.

GT5 on the PS3, which should be out (knowing Polyphony's habit of earliness) in October 2026, or even March 2007 (predicted), WILL have crash damage, WILL copy the exhaust notes for all its cars, WILL have LeMans as a track and WILL have up to 16 cars competing. I think they're trying to get Porsche (officially), Ferrari and Lambo on board this time, considering they have Pagani. They may even coax Bugatti and Koenigsegg into the deal.

That would be cool driving the Bugatti Veyron in GT5.
Best racer of '05? Tricky one, Forza Motorsport is great, but then again, so is GT4.
I like to look at it this way, Forza is the BMW of games, great peice of game, but no real soul, unlike GT which is the Ferrari of the games world, great to look at and has a legacy behind it.

Got to be Forza. Real physics, crash damage, car customization, excellent graphics if you were running it in 480p, and most importantly great and easy online play!

Some good games this year.

GT4, Forza, PGR3, F1 2005 wasn't bad etc......

I give it to GT4. Yes, I know it has no damage. I know it is chock full of some of the worlds most pointless cars. I know, Gil Aboleira, that the handling is not that realistic. And I know it isn't a massive leap forward.

But, the Nordschleife is just perfect. Taking, say, a Sauber Mercedes round with no driver aids and absolutely creaming every corner, the concentration and effort required. Nothing beats the feeling of a perfect lap round that place.

A close second must go to Gotham 3. The graphics alone could give it that ranking, but it just happens to be pretty good to play as well. Can't wait to try it on X-Box Live in the new year, hopefully!

Knowlesy (I do agree that driving the "real" Nords is a blast, but for me GT4 looses to much with it's boringness at the 50% mark, not to mention its too forgiving handling.....)

For me, it has to be GTLegends, just love driving the Escort BDA of Joaquim Jorge (that's the blue one for you) at Imola or drifting the "little" Cortina at Donnington Park Short.

I didn't get GTL in time, so couldn't count it. But it looks marvellous. If it's anything like as good as GTR, then it has to be pretty special.

Put me down for GTL as well. Chucking the little Cortina down the Craner Curves at Donington and flicking the back end out to get the nose into the Old Hairpin just puts a smile on my face.

rFactor could've taken it but for the lack of that "killer mod" - PCC05 comes close but I'm really holding out for the V8 Supercars... Maybe in 2006...

No, for me GT Legends has to be Number 1; whether it's caressing a Cortina or manhandling a Mustang it gives me the tinglies in a way nothing has since I first picked up GPL way back when in 1999. And to think I nearly didn't buy it after all the frustrations trying to get UKGTR up and running in the face of SimBin's apparrent apathy towards GTR owners in general and leagues in particular.

erm ... i hardly consider gt4 a racing game ... while, fun yes, the ai doesnt know how to race and simply rams you or runs you off road ... that is, if they can keep up.

how is it possible to win fgt races in a lmp/group c car by over one minute? and even get held up by the ai fgt while exiting corners?

i dont think i need to bring up the exsive tyre wear either.

[edit - even pd call it a driving sim, not a racing sim]

GTL for me, if only I could get it to stop freezing in the menus.....

But it really p****s me off that I can't race whatever car I like. Having to win and buy cars is not what I wanted at all.
