3D grid program

Hey, does anyone know the name of the 3D CGI grid position program that CH 10 uses for the F1's in the AGP and used to use for the V8's in 04 and last year? Also, where can I get the program?

The 2005 one might have been V8 Supercars 3

best place to start would be a bank...cause you're going to need a personal loan to be able to afford it.

even if you got the 'program' you would still need to know how to make the models, texture them etc etc etc., any decent 3D Modelling program (3D Studio, Cinema 4d, Maya etc.) can do the the same thing if you know how.

It's unlikely you will be able to get hold of the program - BMW from memory have been supplied all the animated graphics for the last 2 years.

But, having said that, the pop-up faces on the grid are similar to those used by Ten on other motor sport events and was more than likely a custom written program by the team contracted by Global.

For an open source, free program that would allow you to manually do that kind of animation, try:

http://www.povray.org/

It would take a very long time to create one car, and if you were willing to accept the inaccuracy, you could duplicate the whole car 21 times and apply different textures to each car. Even doing this, the whole thing would take a VERY long time to create, and about the same amount of time again to render (unless you have access to a considerable amount of computing power).

The Ch 10 graphic is rather shoddy is it not!??

Hardly a megabucks bit of CGI nor requiring an upmarket CGI package, it's a strecth to say that is any more advanced than some sort of game run on a plain old regular computer.

Surely you could control the camera in one of the "open" games with V8SCs mods what-ever the hell they are, to make it follow the grid no worries, the rendering is barely better than a computer game if at all I reckon!

The software was adapted from V8 Supercars 2, that was mentioned when they first started using it.

Im not sure if the F1 software is related, but thats supplied by Allianz

You could get a much better result with those "mods"

Even more so with the upcoming ORSM V8Factor mod for rFactor

(A plug never hurt anyone.)

I dont tend to forget what the cars look like between one race to the next.

What the ABC used during the 60's 70's, the scrolling bit of paper with driver names and numbers served the need of the situation.

In the 1960's in Black and white... very amateurish indeed. This DRT is 2006, a lilltle bit more sophistication is required. Maybe not for you but the other 99% of Motorsport fans including me.

I'd rather they got the race coverage down pat before they started looking at being professional in starting grid graphics.

Why is 'more sophistication' needed? Surely there are other things that should be improved first - like providing 'scrolling' informaiton that can be read easily instead of having to wait until it passes your eyes and you think 'WTF was that?' and have to wait until it comes around again.

Or better still - giving us actual race positions instead of so-called 'corrected' positions?

DRT , TV presentation has to be professional in its approach, that is a given. The race coverage is fine.

Is it? As long as you are with one of the top 3 or 4 teams it may be - but not further down the grid it isn't.

No not like NASCAR..that is annoying. At the bottom of the screen is fine. Having it as a rolling block that takes up a 1/3 of the screen , is not the way to go.

Seems that comment does not apply just o Australia.Although we do show more of field generally than they do in the US.

Unti ldigital TV is permitted to utilise the additional channels there probably won't be any improvement in the data supplied either.
