They will also continue to show Formula Renault if anyone's interested:
Quote:
Channel 4's Chequered Flag programme will increase its coverage of the Formula Renault Championship and Elf Clio Renaultsport UK Cup in 2001.
For the first time, all 13 rounds of both championships will be shown as part of the late night motorsport magazine, which in 2000 attracted one and half million viewers. Mid-season reviews will also feature as part of the one-hour show. The first Chequered Flag, featuring action from Easter Monday's opening rounds at Brands Hatch, will be shown on 30 April. After that, footage will be shown eight days after each race meeting. Full broadcast details are available by visiting the Renault UK Motorsport website: www.renault.co.uk
As in 2000, Anglia TV - part of the ITV network - will again show race footage of both championships. It is estimated over four million households are part of the Anglia region.
Race highlights will also continue to be broadcast to a worldwide audience, in the USA and Canada, Africa, Hong Kong, Middle-East and Europe via the Fox Sports, Videosport and digital Moteur TV channels.
Filming of races has been taken over by Octagon CSI, whose cameras also film both the British Touring Car and the British Superbike championships. BHP, which had filmed races since 1995, will oversee driver interviews and post production.
Octagon's Head of Production Mark Wilkin commented: "Renault's two championships have always provided sensational racing and we look forward immensely to filming the action. Extra on-board cameras, new technology and more creative camera work plus BHP's expert editing skills, will mean the two series will receive their best ever coverage."
Press and PR Manager Tim Jackson said of the package. "Retaining a permanent slot on terrestrial television with Channel 4 is wonderful news for our competitors and fans. I am also pleased we are able to show our races to a worldwide audience, which is of particular importance to our many overseas drivers in Formula Renault."
