Very good news. Molson backing away ment a much reduced profile for the race. Hopefully it will have more attention this year.

I've heard it is Steelback Breweries. Frank likes to spend his money on autoracing, so congrats on the new sponsor.

Frank D'Angelo, the outlandish beer and juice marketer, has reached a five-year deal for the naming rights to the Champ Car race. The partnership with Steelback Breweries is to be announced on Tuesday.

The good news is it's a five year contract and this company will most probably use the CC product much more for advertising. The so-so news is that they are not as well recognised as Molson was. Then again we will see what impact they have. Toronto is back on track. Seems a lot of venues have got it right and are announcing sponsors.

Good. Eccentric auto-fan company presidents are good allies to have. They do it as much for their company as they do because they like what they are involved in. Reading further in the article he pretty much confirms this: "'I have a big ego . . .' he recently told Report on Business magazine. 'I am the product and the product is me.'"

Also carried in the Toronto Sun. Hopefully might extend sponsorship to a Cdn. driver but I don't believe Steelback is marketed outside Canada so that limits the likelihood.

Steelback was a minor sponsor on the jordan F1 car in their final year.

Steelback isn't a large enough company to be able to afford to sponsor the race and a car, unless it was in a minor manner. They spend a total of $10M a year on marketing.

Check this out: http://www.hamiltonspectator.com/NAS...=1112274690734

The article states that the deal is worth ~$20M for 5 years or $4M/race. I'm not sure what Molson was paying, but in its current state that's a home run for CC. I can't see how it makes financial sense for Steelback, but do we really care?

That is a lot of beer even at event inflated prices. I wonder if they have pouring rights for their other assorted non booze drinks.
