At least ACO rules (Le Mans, ALMS and LMS) state that prototypes have white lights and GTs have yellow.

Speed-King has a real shot at the podium!Speed-King has a real shot at the podium!Speed-King has a real shot at the podium!Speed-King has a real shot at the podium!
Specualtion: It might be better(less blinding) for the TV cameras....

But that's just a guess of mine.

i think maybe, gt2s run with yellow and gt1s run with white.

possibly so that at night the driver can see in his mirrors weather the car behind him is a faster gt1 or a slower gt2

vorsprung and Tux have it right, its so drivers can tell whats coming up behind them in the night; with the FIA a GT1 or a GT2, with the ACO, a Proto or a GT.

This might go back to the 60's early 70's where GT cars racing at Le Mans had to be street legal and yellow lights were the norm in all of France for street cars. This is 100% speculation on my part, but considering that GT cars were street legal and all street cars in France had yellow head lights I might be right....
