Yes, they relate to the 1-mile, 2-mile and 3-mile circuits but in a yoof way. The 200/old circuit will be a bit different with that hairpin then Esses onto Revitt Straight

Shame they are not calling it 100,200 and 360, it would be a no brainer then!!! |

The '100' uses the new pit lane/garages to the side of Tyrrells. No mention of start lights or race control though.

One of the McLaren F1 mechanics lost his life earlier this year in a road accident while driving his Lotus Elise. Given the closeness of the factory to Snetterton the Elise Trophy guys (great supporters of marshals by the way) are suggesting turn 4 be named Woody's after him. If you fancy joining the suggestion via the MSV link his family would be really grateful.

*** Anyway, I've submitted the name "Spartan" for corner 8. Seeing as it's going to be used only for the 300 layout, it makes sense. |

I think one of the new corners should be called Archie's.

Given the USAAF presence there during WWII, perhaps one of the corners should be called "Fortress"?

I agree entirely Peter and reckon it should be turn 3 - nearest corner to the new Archie Scott Brown scrutineering bay. Archie was the crowd favourite and made his name at Snett in the 50s. As famous as any F1 driver in the 50s.
Like the present names, the new corners should have some historical Snett name connection I think. Fortress is good, but how about names after the following? Colin Chapman, nearest race circuit to Lotus, where they did all of their testing after initial Hethel shakedowns? Chapman Curve anyone? Norman Greenway, legendary circuit commentator who died this year, the voice of the Willhire - 'Greenways'? 'Van Diemens'..the greatest and largest junior single seater constructor, built just across the road from Snetterton for 3 decades, 'Palmers' after the man who has transformed the circuit from the doldrums of Foulston & Octagon ownership, that gave the circuit nothing. JP has turned it around. In my view the old names must remain. They were named for a reason. Riches & Sear corners, named after Fred Riches, who together with Oliver Sear brought motor racing to Snetterton on 27th October 1951. Coram Curve named after AMOC boss Dudley Coram, clerk of the course at that very first meeting. Russell bend after former F1 driver and racing school pioneer Jim Russell, now 90 years young and creator of world's first racing driver school here at Snetterton in the 50s. There has been a Russell Bend at Snett since June 1965. Likewise the Esses should remain..there always has been an Esses at Snett, the one we have today has been in situ since 1974. The newest name is The Bombhole, but everyone knows it as this since the late 70s, why change it? The straight by Tyrrell's could also be named the Tyrrell Straight..or even the Norwich Straight as a throwback to the pre 74 circuit? |

I fancied the name Lake for turn 5. Ideally that would give turn 4 the name Emerson and turn 6 the name Palmer.......

As for other names, I quite like the sound of Firman's and Chapman's reflecting the role that Ralph Firman and Colin Chapman have played within the development of motor racing as well as the industry within Norfolk. I'm not sure how it could be accommodated given the similarity of names to the existing corner names after Oliver Sears, but I think a corner named after Jack Sears would also be appropriate. |

This layout is fantastic! I really like the look of it.
That's always been the main criticism of Snetterton - the lack of overtaking. Good to see! Selby |

Agree entirely with the previous comment, made the trip from the forzen North many moons ago and was very disappointed with what I saw. I vowed never again, but for an international standard event or possible even the BTCC I can now justify the journey. Bit far for club events though. I'll reserve complete judgement until I've seen some footage but from the plans it looks good. Hopefully, it will go to show that you can build/modifiy a decent circuit in this day age. Herman take note!

good letter in Autosport today - hoping they do not spoil the viewing with high debris fencing - but hopefully if they are built the new spectator "mounds" high enough they should allow us to see over them. Any idea if the new mound outside the Bombhole will turn into a spectator bank - it was in the original plans for this.
On the subject of mounds - who can remember the old mound - just past the startline - in use until mid 60's I believe - was the old earth mound where the aircraft used to fire any remaining ammunition into !! |

I'm not sure it can. It only appears to be marked as old track.. Presuming that is what the white lines mean.
If it is the case that they mean potential bypass sections then the old russell could also also be used, which I doubt very much would be the case. I think the old names need to/will be retained. However what corner would be sear? 2 or 8 (Or the hairpin bypass link should it exist) |

The new small loop can be used on it's own at the same time because there is a (left-handed) hairpin link at the beginning of turn 8 back onto the straight between turn 2 (Sear) and turn 3. The Autosport map http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/86893 shows this best. If you look closely, the links which will be used are shown in a milky-white colour, and the sections of track which will no longer be used have dashed edges and are in the same green as the background colour. |
