Morris and Henderson don't show up so the guy that normally comes third wins - what an outstatnding effort.

I wonder if he thanked them in his podium speech for not showing up before he sprayed the champagne.

well I must say I was dissapointed to see only a hanfull of super tourers ..bhut at the same time I was impressed..I havent seen ST's for around 4 years or so and I had forgotten just how quick these machines were..Peter Hills was the class of the field (I think I may have missed something because I thought he had been banned over the drug thingy a while back?)

anyway he was the quickest without doubt but young Luke Searle did an excellent job in race 2 ..almost holding Hills off but in a move that I missed Peter got the better of the BMW driver..there was a fantastic battle in race 2 between Auger and Miller they swapped positions at least 10 times before Auger got the upper hand.

so here are some pics that I took.

Hills locks up trying to pass Searle in race 2

FUTURE TOURERS

Well i was also impressed with the future tourers ..they look good sound good and go pretty well too..but really are similar to v8 supercars ..and Im sure the general public will easilly get them confused ...but here is a pic of the start of race 1 ...Jamie Brock got pubted and it was the first of 3 spins for him during race 1 ..(2 at turn 1 and 1 at turn 3 ..the old turn one)

The biggest dissapointment for me was the Magna of terry Bosnjack.
the thing looks awesome and sounds great but unfortunately didnt last long..he retired early in race 1 and never came out for race 2 ...i dont know what the problem was ..but it looks great and for a lap or 2 was keeping pass with the other future tourers ..and its also great to see Bosnjack back in action.

as for the rest of the show..it was pretty damm good..the power tour has alot to offer and I was impressed with the whole package.

the trucks are just nuts (in a good way) the V8 stockcars were better then I expected as were the super tourers and future tourers...wasnt totally impressed with the daewoos..but hey they are a good enty level to the sport ..the Hq's are always entertaining as are the commodore cup cars ...the next round is at Calder ..if you can get there have a good look you wont be dissapointed..I plan to return next year to the power tour when it will be even better than this year.

one more pic of the trucks

I read somewhere that the powertour had taken over the channel 7 TV contract from TOCA, so does anyone know when it will be on TV.

Also, i thought Cornish was meant to be there driving Hendo's Vectra.

What's all this about Hendo missing Winton because he was in bed.

I didn't even know the Super Tourers still existed...

Glad to see they are still racing, with a bit of luck the future tourers will take off over the years. DRT, thanks for providing the results, where did you get them from?

About Hendo's sleeping habbits
A few years ago (about 1993 i think) I was in a team with Hendo and about 5 other cars in the 24 hour relay race at Winton.
The race started about midday and Hendo did one of the opening stints of an hour and a quarter and locked his car and went back to the Motel and we did not see him till after the sun came up the next day. Half of the cars fell apart during the first afternoon and all we had left was my HQ and a Gemini and I drove 8 and a half hours out of the 24 doing stints of up to 2 hours at a time, I did 1 hour during daylight I did the pre dawn fog and the sunrise and where was our hero Hendo, nowhere to be seen.
We asked his Mummy and Daddy where he was and thay said that he has done a stint and he needs his rest.
I mean I drove eight and a half hours between 8.30 pm and 10 am and the super tourer took 24 hours to do 2 and a half (2 stints) talk about team work.

Let's hope more ST cars show up now that the uncertainty of them running is now over. They are now officially part of the Power Tour right? perhaps the low turnout and Henderson was the result of the uncertainty.

Wouldn't it seem like such a big challenge to move to V8s by buying more/new equipment to race rather than just hop in the old Vectra??

The Super Tourers/Future Tourers wouldn't even exist now if it wasn't for Power Tour, the category is on the verge of collapse in this country.

If you were Hendo would you throw more money away on a dying series or contemplate moving to category with a future ? Even some Daewoo drivers have made this step up thanks to the Konica series.

The thing is that a normal Power Tour round draws many, many more spectators than any TOCA race meeting in recent years....it just makes sense.

I believe Hendo has had an ex-Emerzides Falcon in his shed for quite a long while now...

Didn't he also used to own a white VP Commodore in about 1995 that he was preparing for the V8s, then he turned out in a BMW E36 in Super Touring.

Yeah, that car was sold to Richard Mork.

Did he start out in a BMW? I can only remember him making his debut at Oran Park in 1997 in his older model Opel Vectra.
