Boesel replacing PJ
Now there's a name I haven't heard in awhile. Team Menard has signed Raul Boesel to replace PJ Jones, who himself was replacing Jacques Lazier.
Boesel, 44, has been signed for the remainder of the season. http://sports.yahoo.com/rac/cart/new...08/boesel.html |

I never have liked Boesel. It seemes that with so much (top equipment, that is) he accomplished so little.
And I still vividly recall him whining after the 1993 Indy 500 saying "In my mind, I won this race, they (the officials) took it away from me" And I was thinking, "Well only in your mind did you win, the rest of us saw you lead the first 18 laps, which left you 182 shy of the win." Hey Raul,if you don't like penalties, here's a novel idea, don't pass cars under the yellow" DOH! |

He had 17 IRL starts in 1998 and 1999, but I believe has been in a state of forced retirement ever since...

Geez, I need to get me some of that forced retirement stuff. Jumps straight in and puts it on the front row on Pole Day!

After being dropped from racing in the IRL, Raul Boesel has been a frontrunner in the Brazilian Stock Cars category.
This is a single-chassis class established back in 1979 and it is the most popular category in Brazil. The current regulations specify a race-built spaceframe chassis which a silhouette body that mimics a local Chevrolet model. Powerplant is a Chevrolet V8, equipped with sequential gearbox. Other ex-Formula 1 drivers running Stock Cars are Ingo Hoffmann (eleven - yes, ELEVEN - times champion) and Chico Serra (two times champion). |

Thanks for that, Muzza. Always nice to hear about what former drivers are up to nowadays. Has Andre Ribeiro ever stepped back into a racecar, or is he concentrating solely on his business? He was one of my favourites.

Always a pleasure, Macdaddy.
To know more about the Stock Cars category visit their official website at http://www.stockcar.com.br. Good websites about racing in Brazil are: http://www.bateroda.com.br http://www.pitstop.com.br http://www.speedonline.com.br http://www.warmup.com.br (this one is currently under re-structuration) Other websites with news about Stock Cars are: http://www.stockcarv8.hpg.com.br/ (unnoficial site) http://www.hr-racing.com.br/inicio.htm (team website) http://www.paulogomes22.com.br/ (driver website) http://www.sandrotannuri.com.br/ (driver website) http://www.tgcompeticoes.com.br/ (team website) http://www.xandynegrao.com.br/ (driver website) About André Ribeiro, nowadays he is solely concentrated on his off-track businesses, and apparently doing quite well. He is also working as a F-1 commentator for the Brazilian radio Jovem Pan (their website is http://jovempan.uol.com.br). Cheers, |
