Greatest Corner in Formula One History? (MERGED)

What is the Greatest Corner in Formula One history? Herman Tilke couldn't make a corner half as good as any of these

I vote for the brilliant Hella Licht at the old Osterreichring, pretty much flat out as you take what is essentially a blind corner - a real test that seperates the men from the boys. Shame there is now a slow, tight low gear right-hander there these days

Quite sad to think that NONE of these corners are still on the F1 calendar in their true glory. Some have been reprofiled, some have been 'chicaned' some have just been removed from the calendar...the 130R and Eau Rouge were still there only last year

Sorry if I've left out any corners you think should be in the poll...certainly the Nordschleife should have more than one, but the poll is limited to ten unforunantly, so I've had to leave out a few choices. I know its a bit hard narrowing it down to one, so I've left open multiple choices for this one.

Oh and please don't just vote for Eau Rouge straight away - give it some though - Eau Rouge is mega but there's plenty of other great corners out there

What about the Karassel? There's also Blanchiment, Les combes, Paddock Hill Bend, the original Stavelot and many others. All demonstrations of the need for maximum committment.

True, but as I said, I was limited to 9 plus other in the poll But I was going to include Paddock Hill and Blanchimont amongst others.

Hella Licht. Easy. Eau Rouge is overrated IMO.

Well, having been warned off Eau Rouge before I started (and that was what I thought of even before I saw the choices), I've gone for the Peraltada. Amazing high speed corner. But I guess I could have voted for any of them.

I was so surprised to find the Bridge at Watkins Glen on the list that I had almost checked Eau Rouge before I noticed it. Sadly, I think it has disappeared at this point.

Eau Rouge as it used to be (but like many corners, it's not the same in it's current state ). I know it's the cliched choice but it is so for a reason, seeing it in the flesh is ore inspiring.

Curva Grande at Monza?
Pretty much any corner at Clermont-Ferrand or was it Rouen-les-Essarts?

Yes Sir, on the original course in the town. Here is a map: http://www.na-motorsports.com/Tracks.../glen/1948.gif

Well, that didn't turn out quite as I thought. When the little icon appears, click it and the Stone Bridge turn is at the top of the course.

Hella Licht. Even Jackie Stewart said it was one of the most fearsome corners ever. I think Mark Donohue had his crash there as well.

Yes, that's why it became a chicane...

Tamburello pre 94 - Imola

Not really a test of car + driver, I just loved the fact that it was flat corner that if it WAS any tighter, it would test the driver.

Doesn't it seem sad that drivers like Fisichella, Coultard, Barrichello, and Ralf all have secure seats in F1, despite having had race winning cars for many more seasons than Jacques, yet failing to chalk up as many wins as he (let alone a WDC) that it is Jacques who doesn't have a drive in F1??? Sad indeed.

Not an F1 track but the Corkscrew at Laguna Seca is the best I've seen!

What about the Flugplatz?

Other noteables might be:

La Source, Spa Francorchamps
The Tunnel, Monaco
Casino Square, Monaco
Tarzan, Zandvoort "Passing"
The Esses, Watkins Glen
Parabolica, Monza
Sainte Devote, Monaco "Pre Tightening"
Ostkurve, Hockenheim, "Pre Chicane"
Signes, Paul Ricard
Estoril Corner, Magny Cours

Nothing compares to Eau Rouge. Looking at it on a map, it looks like a chicane. Looking at a picture of it, it looks like a chicane. But, somehow, it can be taken flat out. The best corners are the ones that, when you look at it, it's hard to imagine that the cars actually go as fast as they do around them. And the old Spa track had two of those!

Any corner on the Nordschleife

The corner at the end of the Mistral straight at Paul Ricard

Brewery Bend at Adelaide (it was surrounded by high kerbs)

How about the old waterfront chicane at Monaco, very fast, and for a time the only thing seperating the track from water on the exit was some hay bales.

La Masta at Spa when driven on GPL comes mighty close to complete orgasm, but other than that I wouldn't know. Never driven any of 'em.

With the change of profiles on both Eau Rouge and 130R, I'm not sure what the "greatest corner" is these days. POSSIBLY Hotel de Paris at Monaco into Casino. Or Piscine 1 at the same track. Both phenomenal corners.

Okay, nobody else has said it, but at Albert Park, Waite (T11 and 12) Seems you need to be far more commited to it than say, Eau Rouge.

I am 15, so unfortunatelly i dont know the old classics, and im sure i would change my opinion if.

Well looks like Eau Rouge is the overwhelming winner of this poll - I like Eau Rouge, but I definantly think Pflanzgarten and Hella Licht are better

The Kink at Le Mans (as it was before the addition of the chicanes).

Nothing special?

Well there is if you were lucky enough to see cars going through it at 200+ mph.......
