Best Lady Hillclimber...
After reading the thread about best hillclimbers, here's a twist -
Who is/was the best lady hillclimber? I won't give my opinion yet, i have a slightly vested interest... And anyone who puts Sue Whitehouse gets a slap

Of the current crop of lady drivers, IMO, Sandra Tomlin.

Its very difficult to compare lady drivers as they all have/had such varying equipment - so to speak!
Ranoff, yes, I would have to agree wouldn't I!!!! |

Seriously though there have been many candidates for that position over the years but you cannot compare between eras fairly. Barbara Skinner, Doreen Evans, Elsie Wisdom, Kay Petre from days gone by.
Then from more modern times Patsy Burt, Joy Rainey, Maggie Blankstone and last but not least Sandra T. And the new generation coming up. Can Caroline "Bee Bop" 'Arris give the boys a run for their money in the future? |

What about Gillian Goldsmith?
She is very fast ,and drives really well in lots of different machinery. For the future,the young Miss 'arris will be good if she drives as well as she plays. Lister

I should have put Errors and Omissions Excepted I suppose to avoid causing charges of bias being levelled. Mustn't forget Cathy Warner, Lynne Owen and Lynne Whitehead also. Sorry if I have missed anymone. Its not personal , honest. I walked Loton Park with Gillian before practice one morning when were both competing on the same day. Her words of wisdom enabled me to tackle the first secton to Post 2a at a pace that had previously eluded me. Previously I had been going left too tightly but she told me all the right points to keep out to and where to come back in. |

wot ho,the offical TVRA vote is for our own CHEVRON lady driver Helen malkie who drove her B19 , the shadow F1 and my B25 at shelsley or loton.

I would say that Lynne Owen could, in the right car, be the best of all of them.

I think we are in danger of ignoring the ladies who drive older, smaller engined, less state of the art cars and do not get their names 'up in lights'. How about Vanessa Lee in the Lotus. She has won her Championship and taken class records.

Well here goes:
Margaret Blankstone; Patsy Burt; Sheila Darbyshire; Agnes Mickel and Lynn Owen are the only ones to score points in a Run-Off. Of these I would have to pick Patsy Burt as the All Time Best with Lynn Owen as the obvious choice as runner-up.

Totally agree. Lynne Owen not only drives exceedingly well in her own car but also in any other OMS she get into. Purely as a point of interest, the result show that 2 other ladies would have been in the Top Ten at that meeting had they been registered - Annie Goodyear (in her first full season in a single seater) and Lynne Whitehead.

Fingers crossed there will be another lady driving next year - my girlfriend Vicki Warner - daughter of Cathy, and niece of Margaret Blankstone - you can see why i had a vested interest!
 We'll hopefully driving in the MGCC Speed champs in our MGB GT, assuming all the bits go back together correctly!
