Aussies at Le Mans

Emotional Engineering are looking for Holden V8 Supercar drivers to run a second car at Le Mans, who do you think would be the prime candidates for the drive.

Matt_S should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Its more long term than that. I think the plan would be to try and get the Monaro to Le Mans at some point in the future, and from a marketing point of view it makes sense to get a V8 driver involved as part of the driver line-up. But I don't think it would be in a second car, it would be as part of the line-up in the single car as EE only run one car in the British GT series.

Not a problem - the Monaro has only had one season in the British GT championship and 2004 was not an easy year for the team by any means, so 2005 will be a season where the focus is firmly on moving the car further up the field and establishing it as more of a known quantity.

Towards the end of last season it did show flashes of pace, and it would be good if this season it could emerge as a serious challenger to the Ferraris and Porsches in the field - and the team are confident that that could well be the case.

I'm only guessing, but I'd say it will be 2006 at least before the team looks at Le Mans, as i'd imagine they would want to ensure the Monaro is running to the best of its abilities before they take it to the 24 Hours, but it would certainly be an interesting addition to the field in my opinion.

what are the specs of the '2nd gen' monaro? will it use the 7 litre engine? i remember reading about it last year, they'll keep the first year car and make the 2nd year car a mongrel like the one that raced in nations cup in australia

Theres not a chance of the ACO or SRO organisations allowing a 7litre anything run in their events, unless the road vehicles were built like this.

I would reckon that it would have to come from a holden motorsport contracted driver and someone who has expierence in the car before. My prediction would be Nathan Pretty, because he has driven the 7 litre mongrel before and i don't believe he is racing this year besides the enduros for GRM

Mr Pretty has actually signed for PWR for the enduros....

... but it would make sense to get someone aboard who isnt troubled by a local racing program, and can devote time and effort on improving this particular vehicle.

FWIW, Allan Simonsen is off to uk on Monday for Donington and Croft Brit GT rounds, and in the gap will be trying to lock in a Le-Mans drive.

Would this be an opportunity for Team Dynamik to resolve their issue of having too many drivers for this year? Will and Wills have both driven in the UK....

If Holden Motorsport were to get involved that Walkinshaw fellow knows a bit about winning at Le Mans.
