Dick Johnson reports... you decide

Westpoint Racing is giving fans of the team, and the sport, the opportunity to hear from Dick Johnson immediately after every track session at Eastern Creek this weekend.

In a first for V8 Supercar Racing, and sport in Australia, fans no longer have to wait until the end of the day, or for media reports, to find out what has happened.

After every V8 session, Dick Johnson will record a voice message giving his thoughts and opinions on what has just transpired at the track.

Johnson will record messages after Saturday's practice and qualifying sessions, and on Sunday, following both races. On the Monday morning, after the round, an overall summary of the weekend will be available from 7am.

"Westpoint Racing wanted to find a way to get information to the fans faster," Dick Johnson said.

"I think that the fans will love hearing about what has happened at the track as soon as a session is complete.

"It's almost a pass into pit lane itself.

"The recording will be raw and unedited and, I hope, full of emotion, something that you don't always get from news services and the print media. I'll tell it like it is."

Johnson's messages will be available shortly after each session and are recorded directly from the Westpoint Racing team garage, in pit lane.

Dick Johnson's voice messages can be accessed by calling 1902 252 787, with his first message available now.

Below are Dick Johnson's Eastern Creek Update times:
Saturday Practice: Call after 12.30pm
Saturday Qualifying: Call after 4.45pm
Sunday Race One: Call after 1.30pm
Sunday Race Two: Call after 5.30pm
Monday Summary: Call after 7am

Remember when Johnson went to the USA and did a bit of NASCAR racing in the 80s. The commentators were blown away because they could talk to him during the race, which the Americans didn't do, but which was common practice in Aus. They asked him why he'd swapped the big NASCAR steering wheel for a smaller version, he told them the NASCAR wheels were like London bus steering wheels.

Actually, that was a long time ago, I didn't dream all that did I?

As too did the irrepressable Jon Evans about the same time.

Jon had a 0055 " WSS results service" that cost about $900 a minute (joking) and was updated at about midnight.

Actually, HRT has been posting audio files from Skaife and T.Kelly on its website at the end of every day during rounds all year ... and they're absolutely free to access.
