Pizzonia to race in place of Heidfeld at Monza

Heidfeld has been suffering from a headache and has been advised not to drive, so the Williams reserve driver Antonio Pizzonia will replace him for the remainder of the weekend.

Sensible precaution.

It'll be interesting to see how he does against Webber.

Not sure on the hair cut he's sporting. Could be rivalling Trulli in the hobo stakes pretty soon.

In 2003, Ralf Schumacher missed Monza because of concussion - place taken by Marc Gene.

In 2004, Ralf was in the middle of his multiple-race missing injury - Pizzonia stood in.

In 2005, Heidfeld has stood down, replaced by Pizzonia again

Apparently he hasn't driven a Formula 1 car in 3 months and even that one had a V8 engine! In at the deep end indeed.

Having a reserve driver spending so long outside the car really makes the team look unprofessional, and look as if they've given up on 2005 altogether. Under those circumstances Antonio did quite respectably to be well within a second of Mark, assuming similar fuel loads.

It's probably more contractual than anything. Antonio hasn't even been whispered in regards to a 2006 seat, so Williams were likely to be looking at a different 2006 test package probably involving Rosberg unless he follows BMW.

I must say I had no idea Heidfeld had crashed in testing? Pictures? Where? Extensive damage to the car?

It was at the test last week.

He was fine, but today had a severe migraine.

May be unrelated

I'm sure Rosberg is BMW's first choice third driver (if you see what I mean), so that would not be a smart move either. Pizzonia is probably going to be Williams' best option of third driver given that he has racing experience and knows the team, so he should surely be kept warm.

I thought Antonio did a very job today, for being thrown in at the deep end. He looked pretty smooth don't you think?
